The afternoon of our first full day in Beijing was just as packed and amazing as our morning. We took a rickshaw ride to a local family's house for lunch, and it was so, so good!
Here we are, about to go to Grandma Wu's house for lunch in our rickshaw~
As we were riding along, I took some pictures of everyday life in the Hutong. Very simple, very peaceful.
Then we arrived at Grandma Wu's for a tasty lunch. She is such a good cook. We were not the only one's she was cooking for that day either, we were just one of four tables. She was older, widowed, a mom and grandma. Her house was a simple one room house. The kitchen was outside into another room. Her food was so good, we had appetizers ( peanuts, plain bread crisps, dates, cucumber ) and then lunch- sticky white rice, pork meatballs ( melt in your mouth good ), and shrimp. I ate so many meatballs! Then she served mandarin oranges as dessert. Here are some pictures of us in her home, eating her yummy home cooking, and Susan our guide ( adorable ).
After lunch, we headed to a silk factory ( Scott bought some super soft pillows, and I bought Sophie a traditional Chinese silk dress ) and to a pearl factory ( we bought Sophie a dainty light pink pearl bracelet ) and finally to the acrobatic show. These acrobatics are amazing! Then I headed off to bed at around 6pm...still so tired, still so jet lagged!
